She was just a poet
A quiet spoken person
Wanting only to express herself
In the only way she had found
To work for her
She harmed no one and spread no
Malice, her poems without spite
Why would one want to quiet
This voice that brought such joy
Why would one want her hurt
As her silence would obviously hurt her
Surely it was not we, her audience
Who shunned her, not we who cut her down
We are spirits akin, we lovers of words
Who among us could do such a thing
We ask as we look around in wonder
Yes…who among us
