Dreams die too easily and too soon
One minute they are babies
Being coddled and fed
Nurtured from tiny ideas
Into full fledged hopes
Suddenly before your eyes
They are growing into aspirations
Fully blown ambitions, running
Ahead of you as you follow
Hoping only to stay abreast
Soon you see them begin to flag
Losing the intensity they once had
Graying slightly around the edges
As you push them along ahead of you
Heavier and heavier as time goes on
Finally you watch as they lay
Barely alive and fading
Unable to even remember their youth
And the promise they once held
You watch with silent tears
As your dreams slowly die

Your voice speaks with regrets of yesterday. We grow up, we have kids, life happens....as we get older we look back at those times where we made choices...then we start thinking THIS way (your poem)...It makes room for change because if nothing else, there is always hope :)...then we go back to college at 80....etc. These are very sad words....you have a heart that of a poet! Great mind probing piece that provokes many old memories and dreams of the reader :)

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
