The sunset was shades of purple and orange
Colors melting into one another
In a way that no artist could reproduce
The air tasted of salt and the sea
As I reveled in the hot sand under my feet
An occasional breeze disturbed the quiet
And the heat warmed me to the bone
I turned my head toward the city
And all the problems that lay there
Waiting for time to solve
And I knew once again that this moment was precious
Sunset on a California beach
Unlike any other moment in time
And I wished it did not have to end
When in my heart I knew it was over
Almost before it began
