I was fairly sure I was important

A player you might say, vital to the game
Not in the big league but trailing close behind
Then you came along
A MVP if I ever saw one
And you shot me down
Put me in my place
Told me I was a toy
Just another pretty face
And I accepted you at your word
Stood down to give you room
You wanted my man
And I thought I couldn’t compete
So I handed him to you like a trophy
That you won without dispute
But when I turned for one last look
I saw him still in his place
Holding his hand out to me
Smiling at the shock on my face
And I knew I had won the prize
