It wasn’t a quiet little coffee shop
It was one of those places that charge five bucks
For a cup of coffee and the name
Crowded, noisy, nothing intimate about it
He spilled his coffee on my new shoes
Just a splash but we both looked up at the same time
He to apologize, me to look irate I’m sure
And the clash when our eyes met
Was surely heard over the din
The crash of thunder was immediate
The glare of lightning blinding
Surely the whole place stopped and stared
Wondering about this storm in the middle of starbucks
But when we pulled our eyes away
The world was continuing nonstop
One latte, skim milk, one iced tchai tea
The young man behind the counter was not singed
The lady beside me was not groping blindly
Sightless from the glare of electricity
They must have all seen it, felt its power
But the world just kept on turning
Oddly….it was our own private moment
We shared it with no one
You mumbled excuse me, I groped for a napkin
The moment was gone, and we went on our way
You with your latte, me with my tea
