A poem from a prompt--these are tough! |

AN UNGODLY MEAL
A small boy sat at his table
One early morning, in a pout
His oatmeal was unpalatable
The brown sugar had run out!
The Greek god, named Zeus
Parted the clouds, gazed upon earth
And noticed the young man's dearth
He was, at first, amused
Then shook the sky, a mighty sound
Knocked a stray star out of place
Sprinkled some sweetness down
Then disappeared without a trace
Sadly, mythical gods of times past
Knew little of this sugary taste
An artificer triying to do his best
Zeus turned the oatmeal into paste!
And now the boy no longer craves
The sweetness of his morning repast
Has scrambled eggs and saves
His toast and jam for last
With the universe as his platform
Zeus hung his head in shame
Not even his godly might
could get that formula right
Which makes one think, perhaps nod
Hmmm, what exactly is the nectar of the gods?
