Jest meditative reflection on why we celebrate Memorial Day.

People take so much for granted!
Hot dogs, apple pie, hamburgers,
believe it or not french fries.
Mustard being licked by children,
off their smiling faces.
Impatiently waiting for cool pops, ice cream, potato chips.
The kids don't care just treat them!
Not a clue why their immense joy,
is greatly celebrated across America!
The soldiers that gave their lives,
and others who served, thank God!
So that playground can be played upon,
sand castles at the beach erected!
Mud pies made, water balloons bursting,
horse shoes thrown, beer and wine drunk.
Mashed potatoes, potato salad, salads.
I say this to all of that.
It is not the color of our skin,
but the beauty that lies deep within,
our souls,
Love and the quest for peace goes on!
I love what makes this country great,
you and I, thanks America!

In hard-working America, Memorial Day, reserved for remembering those lost in the morning, became a time for family and friends to rejoice in the coming of summer and all the outdoor activities freedom bought. Your poem reflects those days very well.

I no longer celebrate the way, but so glad that for so long I was able to.
