Water Witches

It is raining!
It is raining!!
It is as if my blood refused to run.
Lost its place, but now it has found
the route again.  Once again, it pulses
through my arteries and veins.  Rivers
join rivers, silently mouthing Eureka.
Drugs me for a spell into forgetting
those whom rain stuns by sheeting
days, weeks, even months, shutting
down power and chilling spines.
Just will not stop until water dislodges
houses, trees, signs, and every sign of life
between, then carries off all it can.
For now,  biblical floods seem far, far
away.  Been too long!  Thirst too great!
My tongue could not stop angling
for a drop.  If not a drop, an atom,
a molecule.  Or just the shine!
The evidence said that Earth was wasting
away.  Birds drilled to the bottom
of planters and the cores of trees
that were thick and hard as the gate
to paradise, only to end up with dull
beaks.  Deer trained themselves
to spot a dripping faucet a county
away.  Flowers called impatiens
are among the great water lovers.
Swear I could hear the rasp of
their dying voices  begging.   Restricted
from watering, and anyway, it was them
or me.  Well could give out!    Worse
for many.  Who could bear to farm?
Who can bear to be us, I sometimes
wonder.  But it was dry -- we were --
and now it is raining.
It is raining!!
It is raining!!!

Enjoy it while it lasts, Pea: the drought was us, two years ago. We couldn't B U Y a drop of rain; the grass was desicated; dying; dead. Fires turned the sun blood-red. It was a terrifying time for all. But then, here came the rains of this year: boy, HOWDY did we get it! Over and over and...the excitement you display in dancing exhuberance is palpable. Good on ya!

See, I said I'd try to send ya some. :) My aim ain't too good, no: that's why I never play baseball. Once in a while though...LOL

An excellent write of gratitude. :) BRAVA!

Sounds like you're finally getting some much needed moisture, Pea. You never know what you miss until you don't have it. Hopefully it will be more rainy days to come; but without the severe or the flooding. Very well penned; brava! Could feel your joy emerging through these words!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. ;D

The unmistakable quench of rain after a long drought is a joy for the body and soul; I can swear I hear the earth release a long awaited sigh and the trees whistle a joyful song upon the wind. Growing up in Southern California, it seemed that we would have about 7 years of drought followed by a couple of years of flooding. In the end, it all worked out; nature's grand design, not man's. Beautiful and graceful offering Pea, thank you.
Take care,
Sherry
