                   Light Within

Oak -- a simple, old oak -- stymies me.
Only fancy yourself a poet!  she
silences.  Night after night, I wait
for you to do justice to the grace
with which I age.  Simply pen a word
or two along the lines of how clever
it is of me to enlist the aid of sun,
moon, or an ordinary yard light to
embroider my ragged old leaves
with chain knots and butterfly stitches,
many furred  in the style known
as crewel.  Three shades, uncountable
variations:  blue, moss, and deep, deep
olive.  Not to mention forest.  Whiskery
sound is them rapping with critters
hiding deep within about the way
certain branches will go to any length
to felt a crude plank walk with shadows
romantic enough to slow-dance.

Have I mentioned the hint of savory?
Silver underbelly?

I perch on a stub that fancies itself
redwood, aching for a light to turn on
inside that will help me choose just
the right needle, just the right strands,
just the right amount of color, to make
my friend Oak over there -- a simple,
old oak -- come to life on a screen
I am forced to use for canvas.  I owe
her, after all.  Simply put, all do.

Phyllis, this is written in such sincerity and heart felt feelings that I so wanted to bring the "Old Oak" to life with a brillance of colors. You leave us with a magnificent painting that glows with beauty and allowing the oak's shade to grace your face. A great job.

Beautifully written... reminds me of my sister she loves to do artwork with needles, strands of color and light... your words paint a peaceful picture.

I love the way you master the wordage necessary to bring these seemingly inanimate trees to life with grace and beauty. To look at and not past nature's trappings is a rare blessing.

Never got into tatting. My Mother said it was hard to do. Glad you are winding and threading and getting those oaks in picture form. Oh, you are doing crewel, I can do that? It is easy to me and I love the colors you can mix on it. It is so soothing to do it too, but have not done it in awhile. Dont' leave those oaks alone and get them downright so. Mighty acorns into big oaks grow.

(((Pea))),

Serenity sitting under the umbrella of your leaves, the canopy imaged in verse overhead - absolutely stunning, beautiful poetry. Thank you - needed this (how I did).

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
