Sketchbook is among the publications that prefer what I tend to think of as non-standard haikus. 'Non-traditional?' Syllable count's somewhat up for grabs, etc. I will tell you the truth. I resisted moving away from 5-7-5 and the sentences I usually ended up creating. Good to be flexible, tho. Hope I'm getting the hang. Enuf! Subject's FALL as we experience it in much of the U.S. Hope u like!! Sketchbook's looking for 'ku 'bout leaves 'round now, 'case u're interested. xOx Pea xOx

shower exclamation points
leaves'  pleas to Jack Frost
. . .cold one,  he

Grief is one leaf
falls after another. . .
. . .brown white with snow

A poem of a downfall. . .
ghostly regrets of the leaves
go where you came from

drought creates filigree
lace  doilies from decay.
. . .best scenario?
 .

leaves fall as sadness
rises to meet  in iced rain
. . .put on the kettle

leaves not falling but creeping
pile crackles in me if  i move
. . .think Spring

Love the ku's
Really windy here today. Cooler. Still 80's ahead. Temperate. Liz

Loved your ku's...I was listening to the breeze rustling in the trees in my backyard as I read them. Perfect timing to have found these in the Den! Great job!

Excellent, Pea. I much prefer the mod mode, which you do so well.
I particularly admire...

leaves fall as sadness
rises to meet in iced rain
. . .put on the kettle

Your grace with words tempts me to surrender my old man's allegiance to tradition.

Traditional or non-, your KUs share great images with us, Pea. Our oak-leaves are just beginning to fall, but sadly very few acorns for the squirrels to stash for winter. All favorites for me...

A lovely set of KU's, Pea...I have tried my had at freestyle haiku for a few years now, still love the traditional the best but have had a lot of fun with the freestyle...I am interested, thank you.

Pea,
Love each and every one, with a special affection for and attachment to the final line of the first, I'm very partial to lines like that, such.

I so agree with Karla, Pea, that these are beautifully felt and captured. I like the somewhat stoccato voice, like the erratic movement and ambivalence of falling leaves. Also have to go with Karla's choice of "favourite", being an Earl Grey girl! Any excuse for a cuppa! :))

(((Pea))),

Non traditional, but conveys message (and image!) perfectly. Will have to try this form. (And yes, am interested. LOL) Absolutely gorgeous!

This one got all over and inside and THROUGH me with its power - kind of like being struck by lightning, but in a good way - felt every word -

leaves fall as sadness
rises to meet in iced rain
...put on the kettle <--- WOW. Know how you feel. Brilliant!

(((((Warming HUGS))) and lots of love,

Karla. =]
