Maggie May is now 'about' a year old give or take a little. It was one year ago we saw a days old pup toddling, confused on the highway.
She is now the undisputed queen of the dog run, funny napoleon hat ears, long legs and delightful disposition.
I had hoped she would remain small and become a nice little house dog. She grew ... sort of Clifford like, decided she loves it outdoors and while she enjoys coming in for short periods she prefers to live outside where she can keep an eye on her horses, bark at the neighbor cattle and maintain her authority over Minnie the newest little waif to come to the dog run.
She is standing beneath the mulberry tree, those are mulberries on the ground.
Today I remain as non poetic as I was, and I remain as baffled that anyone would take a days old pup, tummy waddle stage out in early morning before the sun had come up and leave it on the highway where it would become prey to owls, coyotes, pick up trucks or following sunup where it would then be prey to hawks, eagles and pick up trucks.
SPAY is NOT a four letter word.

She's still a beautiful animal. You tell a great story.
This reminds of how we gor our kitty Honey. I think it was 1999 or 1998, and it was raing very hard that night. The neighbor came over to us, and asked us if we wanted a kitten. I told her no because we already had three kittens and two dogs. I told her to call MADACC (MIlwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Center), and tell tehm she found a stray kitten. She said she didn't want it put to sleep. I told her they wouldn't do that, unless it was so diseased that there was no hope. I told her that they would have the vet examine the kitten and then quarantine it for 3 weeks, and then send it over tot he human society for adoption. Well guess what. She didn't listen of course, and turned that poor defensless little kitten out into the rain. I was on my front porch and I heard this kitten's meows coming from next door. I said outloud "oh no she didn't." But she did and we took the kitten in. We still have Honey, and she is the sweetest cat we have because she is thankful for being rescued from tha horrible rain that night. I mean she was literally drenched. Thnx for sharing this with us Molly. May the Lord Jesus bless you for your kind and decent heart, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. Most people if not evil in intent have a cruel side to them.

What a beautiful love story! You must have nursed the poor thing, being without a mother. I find these animals are most devoted to humans, we nursed a litter of kittens and kept one, and he is the most devoted cat we'd ever had. Well done on all counts!
