Who do you think you are
Still messing up my mind
Why this power over me
After all this time
Lying in bed at nite
I hear you in my dreams
Still trying to hurt me
Smothering my screams

Who do you think you are
Consuming my life
It's been many years now
Since I was your wife
Why do the words you said
Still keep hanging on
The scars on my heart
Shouldn't they be gone

Who do you think you are
Clouding my memory
Why can't you leave me alone
Just let me be
The cursing still haunts me
I hear it to this day
The put downs and beatings
How I want you to pay

Who do you think you are
With your superior air
You act like you are God
Without a single care
For years I have suffered
From your abuse
Don't you think it's time
You turned me aloose

Who do you think you are
Invading my space
Let me tell you this
I don't want to see your face
You live in the shadows
Where you still call my name
You haunt my very being
Your words always the same

Who do you think you are
Walking around free
While I'm still paying
For the pain you caused me
I was afraid to breathe
Scared of your rage
Crying and alone
In my own private cage

Who do you think you are

Linda,
The scars on the heart will always be there but they will disappear in time to just a little bump. You will not even notice them in time. You are doing so good and a part of the healing and getting the scars down is to write things out in poetry. Good for you!
I will write you when I have a day to myself on the computer. I just found out our home computer will not be fixable until maybe next weekend, if we are lucky, our brother-in-law is going to try. I have several more poems to post too! I have been inputting one poem every time I get a chance to come to the library. I think I have time for one more poem. Take care!

We can't just escape the abuse, we must go somewhere else.
That is where I am headed. God help us find the place.
A haunting write Linda.

Piercing and painful. As you know, I understand the ghost in the shadows - all too well. This write shines a bright beacon for all to see. Shine on, my friend, Shine on.

Excellent write on abuse and the ghost that haunts, but one that with friends to stand by you will remove that ghost from your inner soul.

Who ia this person lurking in the shadows who is ready to rob you of all confidence by whispering innuendos? He can do what he wants,
but don't ever let him take control of your soul. Tell him he is brainless and subject to a pounding that won't stop until he fall into hell. Satan has many willing followers. Stick close to your friends and don't be afraid to ask for help. Your friend Bill

Greetings Poet Linda Hill.

This is an absolute heart-wrenching write, Poet!!! It is so obvious the painful memories run very deep!!! I can only hope that with a strong and loving support system in place, it may help ease this horrific situation from ever repeating itself to anyone ever again. I just cannot understand how anyone could endure this kind of torture. My heart shall never mend, because I do know this happens all too frequently, to both genders, and especially to children. If anyone out there who reads this POWERFUL write, and happens to be in the same situation, or knows someone who is, by all means PLEASE seek out professional help immediately!!! I am sure there are telephone numbers listed, or just call your local police department at 911. We must all try and help STOP this vicious cycle of violence against each other before it’s too late!!! Although this is a terrible scenario for anyone to endure, thank you for posting this absolutely incredible piece, Poet. May the gods above always keep you and yours healthy and safe!!!

My deepest respect, gratitude, admiration and friendship.

Great timely write. I 100% relate too this Linda, many think only women suffer, and men who speak up are wimps.

Well if relating to this makes me a wimp, then I admitt high treason.

This disected my heart.

Brave write, nice kinda rant, love the last line.

Six words too use as a mantra.

Well done babe...
