How many little lives can be saved if we didn't turn away...but got involved. Abused children are AFRAID to speak up...we must be their voice!
I'd walk by the children
As they worked on their test
Slowing down a little
As I neared Sara Lynn's desk
She'd hide her little face
And pull at her sweater
Trying to cover the bruises
Just a little bit better
I touched her tiny shoulder
Not knowing what to say
As I simply smiled at Sara Lynn
And slowly turned away
She never played at recess
She always sit alone
Watching the other children
In a world all her own
Even in the heat of day
Her sweater was her best friend
Hiding the bruises on her arm
Masking the terror within
I'd see the pain on her face
As she watched the others play
As I simply smiled at Sara Lynn
And slowly turned away
One day her desk was empty
Sara Lynn wasn't there
The morning paper had the new's
She had no one to care
Her daddy beat her that night
Little Sara Lynn was gone
Crying and bleeding on her bed
She died there all alone
I stared at her empty desk
With tearfilled eyes that day
Could I have saved her little life
If I hadn't turned away
You've delivered a powerful, heartfelt message, Linda.
And it's because of this and because of seductive and violent sexual
predators stalking our loved ones that I wrote my novel The Paradise of Revenge. I wish you all could read my bold storytelling. But let me share with you that, of course, there is no paradise in revenge. In the end, my dear sweet Josefina learns that we are never alone, that God is everywhere, and that Love is the ultimate revenge.
Bless you for reposting your words, dear Linda. It would have been easy to have just "turned away" and left them unsaid.
Love to you,
Richard

Tragic!!!!! You always wonder if there was something you could have done afterwards. In many instances we blamed ourselves for not interfering, but sometimes even if we do, no one really cares.
God has called a little angel home. She'll be better there with God!
Sadly in most cases the laws still favor the parents in a lot of cases, if you accuse and are wrong the consequences are frightening as well, I think they should increase the penalty in these types of crimes to reflect the pain and life long suffering they cause. Any crime of sexual or physical abuse towards children should be an automatic jail term of no less then 10 years.

So sad I agree; that's why we must be their voice! Love Holly
This one punches the heart, Linda, powerfully and effectively. You may have saved lives today: on behalf of the children, keep being their voice. We are listening and acting.
Unfortunately I know from my father's family history that violence isn't just our generation's curse. A very sad write. It's so hard to know the right way to proceed sometimes, and children often don't want to tell. Blessings, Michelle

I agree with Mr. Ed. Surely at every school there should be a social worker who can work discreetly to evade such a murder. Victor

So true it is. You didn't really turn away, it's hard to know what to do in these situations I know. Be gentle on yourself anyone who finds themself in that teachers place. A heart felt write. Lady J
How beautifully written is this horrible story about an innocent child. I, too,was privy to similar problems when I taught school. Is it any wonder that we now live in such a violent world. Life begins at home---happiness or hell!
Princess Geneveive has a wonderful home, with humans who love her. She and her humans try to talk to each other but Genevierve dosn't speak human and her humans don't speak dog. Genevieve often wishes she had another dog to talk to.
