Beside my house there's an old graveyard, about 100 yrs. old according to the dates on the gravestones. One grave is of a young man named Joseph, losing his life at the young age of only 18. I wanted to do a little tribute to him, a young life taken so soon...

The details of your life
I guess I'll never know
Eighteen years you lived
Too young to die
An illness or an accident
I can't help wondering why
Were you happy in your life
Did you laugh every day
Or did trials and tribulations
Chase your smile away
Did the charms of a lady
Ever steal your heart
Did death come too soon
And forced you apart
How sad no one remembers
So much time gone by
Your existance long forgotten
No one now to cry
Eighteen years you lived

I can't help wondering why
I really like this poem. I have an interest in history, and old cemetaries make you wonder. May God bless you every day of your life.

You dress very skillfully an unknown destiny, or the way it could be. I have the same feelings when I see an old abandoned house.
If the walls could write I am sure we would be sometimes very moved.
Loved this poem and very well written. I have wondered the same when coming accross gravestones of young people who have died. I am into family history, I wonder if you could find this young man on the ancestry.com website on the census or birth and death records? God bless. Baz
Yes, I wonder at times about those old graves and what story lies there. Like an abandoned house. What would those walls say? Great thoughtful piece here.

Very well done, Linda. I live within a block of a similar cemetery and there is a marker I found once which had a 1692 date on it. It was a woman's name and I, too, wrote a poem about her. I went even further. I was so intrigued I began a novel about her, but couldn't finish it . . . Maybe I will someday.
Yes I went out a few weeks ago and redeiscovered an old graveyard in the neighbourhood I grew up in. It was sad there were a lot of whole families that were all killed in the Halifax Explosion. One tombstone had three children from three years up to nine.
