The wind whispers softly as I
slowly
drive through town.
Shadows are coming swiftly
now-
The sun is going down.

I pull up in her driveway- It
looks the same as before-
It's been five years now since I
last
came to her door.

Memories come flooding back-
Oh, the
happiness true love can bring!
She captured my heart
with her loving smile-
We married in the spring.

As the years moved on my
restless
spirit got the best of me.
One cold November day I left
her
crying quietly.

I thought that I could forget her-
I was off to see the world-
Never knowing that it was right
here
In the eye's of my girl!

The years have brought me back -

Let her heart still belong to me.
Let the love light in her eyes
be all that I see.

The door slowly opens and
there's a
frail old lady standing there.
Her face is worn with age-
moonlite
shining in her hair.

When I inquired about my wife
I see
pain and a glimmer of a tear.
And for the first time I
feel
dread and a sense of fear.

She ask me to come in , with a
soft voice she said to me-
Let me tell you about a story , son,
listen carefully.

She was my lovely granddaughter-
the joy and light of my life.
How happy she was when she
wrote me
That she was to be your wife.

She loved you more than words
can say-
That I want you to know.
We could never understand why
you
felt you had to go.

Her heart went with you , my son, the
day you walked out the door-
The light went out of her eyes-
She just could'nt cope
anymore!

A few weeks after you left she learned
a baby
was on the way.
For nine months she carried him -
Praying you would return
someday.

She had complications giving birth-
In pain
she called out your name.
And when she couldn't take it
anymore-
Then the angels came!

You will find your wife at the cemetary
on the edge of town.
And beside her your baby son can
also be found.

Our tears were flowing freely as I reached
for her
trembling hand.
She got up slowly and reached in a drawer-
giving me her wedding band.

I made my way to my car - the moon
was shining bright.
I drove slowly - feeling so alone....
Lord
Help me through the night.

I see their graves carassed by the moon-
I get down on my knees.
My darling, I've come back to you-
Sweetheart, forgive me, please!

My love for you still stands - and for
the son
I will never see.
And from the sky I saw a vision of my
wife looking down at me.

She held a tiny infant wrapped in satin
and white lace-
There was a look of peace and joy on her
lovely face.

Behind her smile I saw a tear as it fell
from up above-
This was her last goodbye to me- her last
gift of LOVE!
