When you are abused and cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel it is time to leave and move on for nothing will change.
Tears of Roses

He came back with roses
Tears shinning in his eyes
Saying I am sorry once again’
But with a tongue full of lies
.
Roses placed on the table
Pleading for another chance
Inside my heart was breaking
It was the same old dance
.
How many chances does a man expect
When he comes home drunk each night
Blaming me for all his problems at work
Mean and abusive, just aching for a fight
.
The love begins to seep out of a broken heart
A deep and impenatrable void starts to grow
One that makes you craw deep inside
So that all your pain does not show
.
The roses lay on the table
Another “I’m sorry.” Token of need.
Laying in an obtuse angle
To the whiskey bottle
That he said was to blame
As he spewed his apologizes
Admiting to his shame
.
Picking up the roses
My body filled with pain
Knowing in my heart
This would all happen again.
.
Ironic that roses have thorns
To prick you as if to say
I am beautiful and fragrant
But only for a day
This is really good. You showed so many sides of the situation, and I have been there with someone verbally abusive and i often think I was lucky to get away when i did because this is the road it may have gone down. Thanks for sharing your soul.
So delicately penned, yet heartfelt and truthful. Been there, done that and moving on is the best remedy....

You tell the truth many are not or can not accept...Roses with thorns, men with pain.. But there are some out there, men which love without the abuse..
How very true Kathy as so many keep hoping and praying this will be the last time but remember the first time they abuse you is hard and each time after gets a little easier until it becomes a part of their routine and no longer even thinks of it. I believe they think it makes them a bigger person but all it does is prove what a coward they are. Thank you for sharing an important topic that people need to read and realize this is no way of life. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Kathleen,I've heard a lot of stories about women forgiving their men even if they do the same thing over and over again.Its a sad trend and some women need to understand that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.It may not be a big enormous light,but a little of it counts to whether a woman wants to be happy or if she wants to be hurt all over again.This is a very good poem,take care
Wow excellant work I love the images that although sad are still striking, I may have worked one little thing in there and that was where I thought you might have been headed when I was reading it and that would have been to use the Whiskey bottle as a vase somehow...just an idea but this poem is fantastic.
