For years and years I sent out cards
To everyone I knew
But now the time has come, my friend,
To cut my list in two.

But even now, the list's too long,
And though I'm fond of you,
Alas my friends, I seem to have
So many things to do.

Besides I fear that Father Time
Is now shortchange me
Therefore, I think it is my need
To cut that list in three.

So if, alas, I didn't send
A Christmas card to you,
I'll try to make it up my friend.
Next year, I'll send you two.
