In the gray mist of eternity,
I saw your beauteous face before me,
I was enchanted by your eyes,
Captured by your gentle words to stay,
Stay…
But the shades of darkness in my soul,
Are formidable,
Rough hewed walls surround my heart,
Each bloodied stone atonement,
For all I have endured…
The vortex of time swirls malignantly,
And the future is foreboding,
I behold your love like a tryst,
A simple fling of your heart,
Searching for something to believe in…
You think it is me.
But I am but a shade of reality,
Microscopic bits of information,
Brought to your eyes by a circumstance,
Neither one of us could foresee…
I struggle to hold true to my purpose,
Yet my heart is entranced by the hope,
That at last I have found one with ears to hear,
The echo of my dreams!
You surpassed my fears too easily!
Dare I believe that you are real?
Not merely a fantasy I birthed in my heart,
To ease the pain of living in a bitter world?
I strive daily to ease back into that darkness,
Where I am safe from your pursuit,
Yet even in the darkness I love so well,
I hear your pleading echo off the walls;
Stay…Stay…

I can feel this so well, it reminds me of how I felt when I found my husband, and he was trying to break down the wall of my heart, well done peice.Great flow as always, blessings~shell

Excellent write, Retta...written straight from your heart. I know and understand of the dark world you speak and it's very hard to walk into the light. I pray that you will, Retta.
