Desert winds flow through his hair,
And the sun has burned his eyes blind,
So that they see only what he was taught to believe;
He does not know any other way to be…
But I shall teach him…
I will show him the beauty and truth,
That flows in the rivers here,
I shall teach him to listen to the winds,
And the ancient stories they love to whisper,
To those that have the ears to hear.
He speaks too loudly and proudly.
I shall hush his voice,
And teach him life is not about control,
But about freedom and wisdom,
About listening and learning,
About loving with your heart,
Not dissecting with your mind,
Questioning every word that is spoken…
I can tell you more with a single glance,
A small smile that is reflected in my eyes,
The touch of my fingers as they brush your hand,
Then you can as you sit and command me to listen,
To all you have to say…
Ah how deeply brown the desert sun has burned him,
How much passion blazes in his blood,
His eyes strain to see beyond the boundaries of his life,
But he does not need his eyes at all!
Ah, how I shall teach him to listen to his heart!
To hold and caress the dream that dwells there,
My dear friend,
If you want love,
You need only to love!
Let that desert wind,
Blow those dark thoughts from your mind!
Seek peace here in my arms,
I shall comfort you,
Care for you,
Teach you to understand the nature of women.
You cannot control the world,
Or what it thinks of you-
You cannot control me.
But I can let you love me,
And teach you how to see,
As one who is beloved,
As one whom I love…
An exquisitely proffered vow of feminine mystique to heal and balance wayward masculine prerogative. The spritual aspects of the romantic impulse pulls the reader lovingly inside the beautiful flow of these lines.
I loved this poem. I am always drawn to strong men who think they are weak if they are not in control of everything that surrounds them. At first they seem like an Oasis to me and then over time that dries up and i feel thirst like im sipping from from a cactus plant. You are such a talent! well done.
A love poem, one sided (perhaps) but definately deeply moving and perfectly written.
Beautiful poetry,always,from you.
Best wishes always to you and yours

WOW! You always touch me, Retta.
However, I admit that I am guilty myself of overanlyzing with the mind when I'm afraid in matters of the heart. :-) I don't know about others, but for me fear of rejection is the root. LOL Most men don't respond to this as women and recognize that's the fear overanalyzing. They either lecture about overanalyzing or do what the fear told you they were going to do anyway, leave. ;-) A good long session of love making with some reassuring words would've probably been a better choice if they wanted me around much longer. Then they show up later wondering why I'm not receptive. Oh, the ups and downs of learning trust. Hard work. ~~Nordette

Ah, Reindeer, when you begin philosophizing and treating the common word as the ultimate weapon against ignorance, you are in a class all by your self.
Ah, a kind and sweet lesson in the gentility of life. Your words are are a tonic for fortunate readers, but heeding your words promises rewards beyond entitlement. A second and third reading of this one is highly recommended. Its effect is effective - in a flow of understanding what others may expect of me. Thank you for a goodun' - Bill
