I Gotcher Back...

* Three Lovely friends who once saved me from an evil dragon, and made me believe in friendship once more- Tom, Jim, and Mike, I will never forget what you have done for me...*

Strange to hear it,
Coming from one such as you-
A word called fear,
A word I didn't think you knew-

This great warrior,
From a time long passed,
Had fought and won,
so many battles,
right down to the last...
Heard me weeping
In the darkness of my birth,
Came seeking,
Finding me hidden deep within the earth.
He reached out his gloved hand to me-
And though it was hard for me to see,
I let him pull me to my feet...

Standing guard,
He pushed me forward,
Bade me to walk on,
reenter the Garden of Stones,
Made beautiful by hundreds of Songs...
"I gotcher back," he whispered in my ear,
Trying to assuage my fears-
Shoving me on-

I walked a little further enjoying the view,
Then turned to thank him,
But he was gone...

The beasts crept forward then,
Smelling blood,
I called your name,
But you said you couldn't come...
Left me there surrounded by misery...

Closed all my doors,
Only wanting to be left alone...
Thinking about fire...
and what to use to make the pyre...
But then others came,
calling and calling my name...
And though I tried to push them away,
They encircled me-
Made me stay...
Gentle and Kind,
Speaking softly,
helping me to understand,
The fault was not mind...

Taught me the meaning of friend ship
These three,
standing in a circle,
protecting me...

What a feeling it is,
To have someone care!
How very strange and lovely,
To have others who Dare,
To scracifice losing something they hold dear...
And doing it without fear,
For someone they barely knew,
Just could not watch me be alone...

My heart was restored by their beauty,
My faith renewed, My soul regrown...
How do I thank them for teaching me,
Something someone else couldn't even see...
The true meaning of the words men speak so easily,
When they are under attack;
"Rest easy buddy, I gotcher back..."

Outstanding...my God; I didn't want it to end! And as far as "thanking them" goes, I'd say you just did. This really is beautiful.

Retta, this was truely inspiring. How I have missed gallantry in this modern world. I am glad they were there for you, and that you graciously honored them in this beautifully crafted work.

God, this is so beautiful...the pain eased, the poet, the one who had gone down and down and the wonderful hands reached out to rescue, oh...gratefully so, this is so intensely moving, honest about despair and hope...and hope given, to you Retta, and to those who..'gotcher back', gratitude...and God, how beautifully you write!
oh, am moved and have known such times, God, people, friends...what a great difference it makes to have such, and you paid tribute to it's wonders in beauty...
Thank you,
so much
