Memories Of My Love

Every now and again,

Memories of blue skies

And yellow wild flowers

Intrudes upon my life…

And Eternity pauses-

For my happiness,

Was forfeit for a love

I returned to its source…

A love I betrayed,

In my vain and foolish youth…

For once there was a Man of Spring,

Who loved a woman born in the Dark of Night-

These two,

So opposites in life,

Were drawn together,

For it was only then that

They felt whole…

They struggled long and hard

To avoid the passions of Life,

For fear it would damage,

Their fragile friendship…

And

Yet still,

In the end,

Love sucked them up,

In a whirl-wind of hope and dreams…

The man was a Lover of Wisdom,

And the Spoken Word-

Who thought he loved all Man equally…

He could n0t have known that

He was to love a Woman also…

The Woman was a Child of the Night-

Lost in the Darkness of her Birth…

Sealed in a wall of Stone and Silence-

That wall,

Built by grief and blood-

Welded stone to stone with the

Broken dreams of her youth…

Fitted together so tight,

That not a single blade of hope

Could find its way,

Between each carefully placed brick…

And then,

They met…

These two,

A flower of Hope and Love,

Planted in the garden of the Night…

And Lord,

How it struggled,

To grow in both worlds…

And though it did not die…

Neither could it grow,

For the sun would burn the roots,

Or the night would freeze the bloom…

And so,

They parted,

And wandered through the world

With a part of their souls missing…

Each holding and treasuring the missing piece…

Refusing to give it back-

They were bonded forever

By the love they had once shared-

Sometimes,

She hears him whispering her name,

And she remembers that once,

The Man of Wisdom,

Had whispered in her ear,

That his heart would wither and die

If she did not return now and again

To water his soul…

And because they once were Lovers,

She does…

On cold winter nights,

She travels to his life in a dream,

Sensing his need,

Biding his call,

She comes,

And he makes her welcome;

This man,

Blinded by his own Light,

Finds fleeting comfort

In the Darkness of her Love…

And she,

This Dark Woman of the Night,

Submerges this other self,

This love of her life,

That lies buried so deep,

She often forgets he is there,

Until he calls her again…

Then she emerges from the shadows,

And follows the call of her beloved,

And lays her down by his side…

Where she basks in the glory

And warmth of his love…

Dawn comes,

And finds her pillow stained with tears,

And she grieves in silence still…

Only now and again,

The memories of blue skies

And yellow wild flowers intrude,

And the smell of his soul

Pervades her heart…

And she remembers the price

She paid to let him go…

And sometimes,

When her heart sears with pain,

She wonders what course her life

Would have taken if she had chosen

Another path…

Would he still love the Child

He found trembling in the Dark?

Would she still love the God

Who taught her how to listen

To the wind sing,

On a beautiful summer’s morning?

So many things she remembers-

And in the Fall,

When the trees call her name,

She remembers the way he said good-bye…

How he held her in his arms and whispered:

“Come to me, my Love,

Come to me when the stain of the world

Has marred your soul,

And I will wash you clean again…

Hold you in my arms until you are at peace

With all the world,

And me…

Oh God,

Now and then,

When memories of blue skies intrude-

And the harshness of my life

Has worn me down…

I reach for him,

And strain against,

The boundaries of my life,

To reach his world,

And feel his love once more…

I remember him whispering;

“Fear not my child,

That we do not touch in this life,

Or on this world-

We have loved each other for eons,

And,

What is one more lifetime,

For us?

We will live again,

And love again.”

These words alone suffice

To shore up my grieving heart…

So I wait for this time he speaks of,

And try to listen,

With the love he taught me,

And see with the eyes,

He gave me,

And live…

While the memories

Of Blue skies and yellow wild flowers

Intrude upon the Sorrow of my life…
