My Dark Angel

His Harsh face,
Shadowed in blue light,
Making him glow in the dark of night...
Hair framed gently around his face,
And I can't help thinking how wonderful
It would be to feel his embrace,

Tight,
Hold me tight my love,
Protect me
From the darkness of the night..

His eyes closed,
Head tilted back,
Sleeping in such restless repose,
Hands clenched tight as if prepared to fight,
But I wonder in fear,
What demon woud dare draw near?
Who so brave to cross that line,
Stare into the eyes of the lion...

Did I tell you about the wings he has?
So large they spread out behind him like a cowl...
They look as fragile,
As the veined wings of a butterfly,
But they are as strong as the steel mesh
That imprisons our dreams...
Shadowing his face in the eerie light,
Making him such an awesome sight...

Did you see my angle fly off tonight?
Did you watch him rise above the ground
Like a dark hungry bird of prey...
With a cry that made me so afraid,
He rose and turned away from me,
And when the tears began to fall
From my eyes in silent grief...
He returned and kissed me long and deep.
I tasted the blood that had made him drunk...

My mind wanted to push away,
But my soul knew it was going to stay,
And I drank of him,
My dark angel.
I tasted his soul and grew to know
The source of his great unease,
And wept silver tears that reflected his face
In the shadows of my heart.
How was I to know,
That my love would make him weak,
and give his foes a place to aim...

Ah,
My dark angel,
I would give you up if I could,
But your love pierces my heart like
Arrows of wood,
and even if you let me go,
The iron shaft of your love,
Is embedded in my heart,
And no man, Demon, or God,
Could pull it out,
Without tearing me apart...
For I would hold on to you
With my dying breath,
Let those dark wings fold around me-
And I would rise like a Phoenix from the ashes
To walk by your side for all eternity...

Super!! Here I am in Ann Rice's neighborhood and then you conger up a great poem like this. Think I'll mosey on over to her place and look at that coffin once more.

Love and peace,
Susan
