Your Gift Of Flowers

Once you gave me a flower,
With it’s petals softly wilted,
And you held it out to me,
As a gift of great beauty,
But I could not see,
Past the pain you gave me,
Could not smell the sweetness
Of these roses you want me to see,
I stare at them wondering what it means,
The sorrow you bring to much,
To forgive with these flowers I touch,
Pulling off the petals one by one,
He loves me- He loves me not…
And with that I am done.

Throw them out to burn in the sun,
Like the passion and love I once had,
Turned into something so bad,
That I feel numb,
And here you come,
With that smile on your face,
Wanting me to relax into your embrace,
So I play my role,
Wishing I could know,
The truth behind your lies,
As you stare into my eyes,
And whisper those words I don’t believe,
Watching you sadly as you leave,
Thinking you have made me whole,
Baby, you just don’t know,
How empty I am inside,
Fleeing the love I hide,
Knowing those damn flowers
You give with such pride,
To make me stop feeling blue,
Meant so much to you-
Wish you could see,
That they meant so little to me...

How much more it would mean,
If you could somehow bring,
The truth and honor we once had,
It could be like a bridge between us,
Something we could trust!

You walk away so smug-
I feel like taking a shower,
To wash away your hug,
Wish I had the power,
To make it like it was,
In the beginning
When there was still some love,
And your gift of flowers
Would be still be able to touch
My heart in that special way,
Instead of being just one more thing,
I need to throw away…

Reindeer, this was so poingent for me. It is as if it's an extension of Walking Corpse. It is perfect as it is, don't change a word.

If I may, the second line insinuated the petals were wilting, due to the present tense
of it's. I might suggest with instead. Likewise, using like offers a metaphorical stance, where it could be more concrete in the "as." "pulling off the petals one by one...and with that I am done is nice. Overall I enjoyed it, however. Have a wonderful day!
