* I wrote this, because someone keeps buggin me to " let them in*, I write, what I cannot say...*

Once, so long ago,
I gave someone my heart,
And they knocked it off the shelf,
It fell to the floor.
And I thought,
I will never love anymore…

Then the childhood fancies passed,
And I fell for someone new-
And he made the same promises,
As you…

Our love grew and fostered such hope!
But then something happened,
That pushed us apart,
And I was sent back to start
All over again,
Feeling like I would never
Find a friend…

I withdrew,
Never knew
The joy of loving,
And having love returned,
I was too scarred and burned,
To take another turn…

Then you came,
And promised me such sweet things,
That you had hope and friendship,
You could bring,
And you swore to me,
That you would never leave…

I didn’t want to believe you,
I never wanted to trust again,
But you promised to be a friend,
Something I had missed,
For so many years,
Having someone to share my joy,
And my fears…

So we played your game,
I even let you know my name,
Something I never shared with anyone,
Except you-

And got used,
Got played,
Realize now,
I never should have came…

How stupid of me to think,
The outside world was real,
Better to have stayed here,
Behind my shield,

You killed me,
More than once,
For I was dumb enough,
To give you a second chance,
And you did it again,
And I now I am hid,
And shall never reveal myself to anyone,
Not friend, nor foe,
Shall know,
Where I am…

I have returned to where
I came from,
And my mountain is so high,
Should you try to find me,
You will die,
For you cannot breathe the air here,
And I will never go there-

You cannot hear my music here,
For your ears are deaf
To the songs the trees play,
And you cannot listen,
To what they say…

I shall never sing to you again,
And give thanks to the gods,
That you never understood anyway…

You can not see here,
Your eyes are blind to the truth
And beauty that surrounds me,
And I will never show you
My world again,
And I give thanks to my Gods everyday,
For never letting me
Show you the way…

I need you to stop now,
I need you to go away.
I need you to know,
It was never me you loved anyway…

Just someone you thought you knew,
And it was never true ,
It was never me you loved,
It was you.

And I?

I shall never love again…

Well Marilyn did make the mistake with the name but the story behind your name could be mine.....so be sure I know what you are dealing with my dear friend,,,,be strong and know you NOT the only one in this damn untrustful life...
My God be with you.

Retta you say that out of deep hurt....I know...I have someone close that is in that position and he says "never again" but..when love does show up on your doorstep...be carefull because it could finally be the right one...so never say never...just be cautious as you should be and have every right to be...it is a terrible thing to be hurt like that over and over...I know...someone close to me has my ear..and I became ill just listening and absorbing all the hurt.....great expression...Floria

Reindeer, To taste true love is a glimpse of heaven, to live false love is a journey to hell. Your have said it so well in your poem. The story all too common, but your handling of it is beautiful. Stay in your hidden place until your ready, then come out and set the world afire with your passion for life.

Retta, lovely but sad write. There is love out there, find it and embrace it and let it embrace you. You are part and always will be the beautiful people of the world.

I was lucky, found my true love early in life. Hope you find yours soon, dear. He's out there. In the meantime just enjoy the other things you've always enjoyed in life. Don't put yourself down! It's never your fault. Nature heals. Your poem is lovely in it's sadness.
*Hugs*

Retta, I don't know what to say or how to cheer you up. But you are surely not the only person to feel this way. I hate to see you you isolated. Bill

Oh, Retta, is there no hope? Is there no Spring in your northlands to regain the sense of balance/unbalance, again, this aches, with the sense of loss, of self. Oy, some days you cut the reader to the quick...

Retta, what is beautiful in your world, right now? Is it the snow? Do you see the Aurorea Borealis? Do you dream of hot-bed flowers? You must yin to your yang, my Reindeer friend...

:)
