* "Bear" is an old and dear friend of mine..this poem is for him...
This ol' Bear,
Traveling through my forest,
Wearing paths with his heavy feet,
Stopping to smell my garden,
Lifts his heavy head,
Sees me and stares,
Wondering why I don’t care,
Show him no fear-
This old Bear I hold so dear…
I follow him in the forest so dim,
Seeking to stay in the shadows behind him,
Stepping in his footprints,
He leaves behind to guide me,
Showing me how he lives,
So damn free-
The love he gives
So pure and good
So much I wish I understood…
He walks slowly never missing a step
And I wonder how it is we met…
That fateful day when he saw I wept
Such bitter tears and held such fears
That he took from me
And taught me to see
It was I, who kept me,
From being free…
I sit so high in the sky,
And no longer wonder why
He comes to me when I have the need,
Bringing me the peace on which I feed,
Like a starving man in the street-
This old bear I was lucky enough to meet…
I see him standing there
Watching me with such care,
Then I must
Rise up to greet the only man
I learned to trust,
This dear friend of mine,
Hoping one day to be as kind-
Show someone what he gave me,
New eyes in which to see
The beauty that exist all around me…
You write very well ... excellently thought out ... beautiful.
