Schizophrenic Dream

I saw shadows in the room,
Faces of doom,
Voices whispering,
The battle takes place at noon…

I tried to walk away,
Running from what they say,
But their words called to me,
Begging me to stay…

Didn’t heed the warnings of those more real,
The words they whispered to me making me feel,
Like I meant something to them,
Friendship a beautiful gem,
I have never owned,
Preferring always to remain quite alone…

But those shadows holding out their hands,
Whispering to me to trust this man,
How strange he seemed more real to me,
Than those who I could clearly see…

Wish I could have realized,
He was just a Schizophrenic Dream…

We played this game,
Told our names,
Shared secrets and laughed at jokes,
I wish I could have choked
Back all that I revealed,
Wondering now if I will ever heal…

Strange for me to think it was ever real,
Foolish to believe what he said,
When none of it was real,
Nothing he said, was anything he didn’t steal
From the songs he loved to hear…

What a sweet mouth he used to abate my fear,
His soiled cloth he used to wipe away my tear,
How deeply I fell for his heinous lies,
Could only hear the cry,
Of my soul when I discovered with a scream,
He was nothing more than a
Schizophrenic Dream…

you have nailed schizophrenia and its insidiousness in this fine piece. and anyone who produced such a response in you should be put in a straight jacket and locked away, whether they are imaginary or real. Great write!

Is saying Happy Easter appropriate after this poem? (just joking) Have a Happy Easter!
