My Heart...

My heart,
Full of whispers tonight,
Little voices that say,
Quick run and hide,
Before he finds
A way inside…

My heart,
Drawn up so tight,
Closed like a dam,
So the flood of emotions
Don’t overwhelm,
And drown me,
With their lies…

He comes,
He goes,
He stays,
He leaves me alone…
And always I wait,
Take him back,
Wondering if
It’s a mistake…

It always is,
My heart whispers,
Telling me
To close my ears,
Listen to my fears
Beating in my heart
Like crystal tears…
Crashing and bursting
Into tiny shards
That cut my fingers
When I try to clean them up…

Little pin pricks
Leaving tiny drops of blood,
On my heart,
On me,
And I wonder
Why he does not see,
He is slowly,
Killing me.

Dear Retta,
This was a lovely, and tragic piece. Lovely in the way it was written...but tragic in its content. You have captured here so well the vulnerability of a woman's heart. Since their heart is above all things most tender, it is more apt to forgive past mistreatment....and re-embrace that person who caused it pain in the hope that love slighted, will blossom and flower once more. Thus often enduring much sorrow....but becoming a more precious treasure for the one who treats that heart with the care it so deserves. Deeply emotional verse, and very well written...i weep with you.

Transforming the pain of existance into a beautiful, haunting poem-that's our lot in life. Very nice write.

I know some this feeling...
"we can't escape Little voices that say,
Quick run and hide,
Before he finds
A way inside…"

Like the contradictions of choice in this piece, Retta, it gives a feeling of losing, either way... Like being happy won't bring peace and acceptance, because there will always be those little voices...

Wow this hurts.
I feel less sorry for those who waste their love than those who love is wasted on.
I hope there are good days.
