September's Song

The summer days are fading
When warmth is masquerading
Feeling our hearts have surely found their way.

That chilly frost is falling
When nature comes a-calling
And we kick up every leaf
Along the way.

So easy and free are we
Above the land and sea
Where summer’s winds could never
Blow our cares away--

Like a hotly burning ember
There’s nothing like September
It’s ours to find
A perfect beaujolais.

We’ll roam the fields together
Forget about the weather
Yes you and I are here
At this glorious time of year
And love is all around and here to stay!

Such a noteworthy piece of writing. You've captured the coalescence of humanity and one of nature's prized gifts. Thank you for this thought-provoking reminder that "love" is the answer. Nature knows it so well.

It's wonderful to have love nearby when facing the knowledge of what September will bring. Whenever I hear those words I think about the words from the classic, September Song, with lyrics that are timeless and warning that the high point of middle-age and all of its blessings, like the flaming goodness and plenty of September are about to move into the cold and bleak time leading to the inevitable end of this life.

Your poem tends towards a better outcome, longer life with love lifting you up.

A beautiful write about the fall season, which is one of my favorite seasons. The other one I like is Spring. Enjoyed this poem immensely.

So beautiful and carefree, Ed. It's been a long time since feeling that way has come natural, in this time of crises. It seems like it never ends, but nature will continue to be a solace, so long as we don't destroy it all. See, I went negative just that fast. But your poem reminds me of a simpler time that we all miss, though the paroxysms of mankind come and go through the ages. Nothing's new under the sun, right? D
