not even when the wrath of a wild sudden summer storm darkened the day and terrifying thunder shook the house and lightning flashed and burned desolate prairie beyond your comprehension
you took your blanket petting a favourite soiled corner of it and sucking your thumb you huddled among the dust bunnies under your bed
I held mine all 4 in my arms lots, but at one time I had to leave them, and go get therapy and help - so their Father brought them up, but I'm back into their lives as grownups, now and they all 4 know I love them very much.
I HAVE READ THIS WORK THROUGH TWICE...I DEAR NOT READ IT THROUGH AGAIN, NOT NOW, ANYWAY. SO MANY TIMES WE TRY TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS MISSING, WHAT WE YEARNED FOR AND DIDN'T HAVE AND NO ONE UNDERSTANDS...WE JUST WANTED HER ARMS, WHETHER WE WERE RIGHT OR WRONG, GOOD OR BAD...WE JUST WANTED TO KNOW THAT COME HELL OR HIGH WATER...SHE STILL LOVED AND CARED, LIKE MOTHERS (TRUE MOTHERS) DO.
THIS WORK HAS HAD A PROFOUND AFFECT ON ME...I HAVE SAVED THIS, REGIS. THANKS YOU FOR SHARING, LOVE AND BLESSINGS,

I certainly hope that this is not about you Regis. Tragically many children have suffered like this. Even some of you reviewers, have been through this. I hope you all have found some inner peace.

I love this Regis.
I lost my mother when I was nine and have no memory of her. I've always felt a deep longing to feel what it was like to have her hold me. This poem touched me deeply.
Very heartbreaking write, not to be held in your mother's arms, It's also hard not to cry with this one. I feel very blessed that even as I grew up my mother still held me in her arms. Everyday when I would leave to go home I always got a kiss and a hug, and now all I have are memories of what that felt like. Outstanding poem Regis.
The poem, following the lovely artwork, catches one off-guard ... sadly one's thoughts twist--magnificent work, Regis!

you made me cry and you made me grateful ~ grateful for the mother I have and also for the mother she taught me to be. Thank you for opening my eyes.

My dear Regis.. I now understand why we say "burst into tears"... reading this, I didn't get a lump, it didn't come in waves... it was sudden and utterly bottomless! Poetry has no rules, no restrictions... all that make us human is poetry in the mind and in the words of a skilled writer... you have moved me... and it seems to be unshakable. The simplicity and the unshadowed truth in this is deep emotion defined. How amazingly sad. What achingly beautiful poetry. katy xox.

Actually hard to believe that a mother will refrain from holding and caressing her baby. But reality has shown that it happens.
Excellent write.
What can I possibly say here that has not already been said and echoed repeatedly. Perhaps just this.....as THAT child in my own past...I thank YOU for writing this. The deep yearning for that love never ceases, but as Ed M. so aptly points out...we instead find peace through better memories.
One other thought, I am touched that there are others out there who hurt as I do over that loss of love we never had. It does help to know we aren't alone sometimes.
Well I can totally relate to this one Regis....the words could describe the relationship I have with my mother, my quest for unrequited love, and the picture is thankfully how I am with me kids...beautifully written...best wishes Andrea

Wow! That photo fools you, you think all nicey-nice, then pow! I like that, kinda heartbreaking. I like the way you laid this one out, too.
This is so emphatic and simply stated that it is a bullet to the heart and there is no way that it will miss its mark, Regis! What a bold and profoundly moving write this is. Powerful and effective, like the surgeon's knife. We so need it! The pain that's locked inside for many of us needs to be lanced and allowed to be healed, I am sure. I know that inside of my adult body is an unmothered child that is still crying in the dark. So many of us can look "grown up" on the outside but are stunted children still in our psyche. No wonder the world is such a mess - we inhabit an emotional kindergarten! Thank you indeed for this... to acknowledge the truth is at least a start on the road to reconciliation and healing... and many "mothers' arms" await each one of us to redeem what has been so long lost. Bless you. You're a great man, Regis, and a spot-on Poet. You deal in realism... who says you never grew up?! Kate xx

This tears the heart open Regis! How can parents not
know love for their children? I had two boys, one
could sleep through anything, the other, had to be held
through the storm, I felt so much love pass between us
at those times,I would never want to have missed that!
Nice vignette. I am censored by Authors' Den so I won't be posting on your poems any more. You can still e-mail with them, of course.

God so very moving Regis! Reminds me of Ashleigh my daughter.....she's scared of thunder storms....most nights she just jumps into my bed :)..I'd rather have her jumping around like a flea, keeping me awake all night....than to let her lay awake feeling terror....I hate to think of any child as being scared....:(
I love this, Regis! Merci beaucoup, mon ami! C'est magnfique!

With the drawing you attached - are you an artist, too? - you had me set for just the opposite that you delivered, and I found myself, too, aching for that mother's touch in the art. Send this to mother's everywhere! You know well the effect of lack of love, so achingly portrayed here.
This is sad but true. You have penetrated hopefully the hearts of cold mothers worldwide. A hug cost nothing. Shame on them. I have to say though when I was frighten by a storm, my mother consoled me with her warm hugs. The memories flood my mind still.

OMG! Regis you hit it, a nerve from my past, just as my mother was, I almost want to ask how did you know my mother, the old bitch, wow, flashbacks are really weird...
Now that I have had my laugh from Ed K and my good morning cry from you Regis, (not a bad thing), I can go on to have a good day...
What a great descriptive write, beyond that of my thoughts on the subject, you can really "belt" out the powerful writes my friend,

Ditto May's comment. There are many in this world with Mother's who do not truly love their children, or know how to love them, or love them but don't know how to show it.
Wonderful Regis,
Love and blessings to you my friend. ann
