Lovers On My Lawn

My lawn has many lovers
The morning sun worships
The dew-sprinkled blades of grass
And with his rays like magic
Turns each dew drop
Into a sparkling gem
Mushrooms and even an occasional toadstool
Like to pay a visit to my lawn
Deer love to nibble
On the hedging cedars along its edge
Moss keeps it green in winter
Clover does the same in summer
When the grass goes dormant and turns russet
For I neither water nor fertilize
Nor “herbicize” nor “pesticize”
Wild rabbits relish the clover
Robins find their sustenance as well
Enjoying the short grass
That makes it easier for them
And every summer without fail
Appears a tiny ruby of a flower
I do not know her name
She symbolizes beauty
All of these lovers on my lawn
Provide an advantage for me
I seldom have to mow

it makes me feel like a wild rose of summer , as I read this one. All the little and big creatures surrounding your place must be a relatively great experience to you from the robins, the deer, rabbits and all. I love critters from nature, in their natural settings. In England I saw a bird on it's nest the first day I was there when we went to some scenic place to picnic, it was black and I don't remember it's name. It was quite an experience to see those things in England, like a bird flying in front of our car on the road, and sheep in the fields, and I never got bored one moment I was over there.

You never need to stray far to find topics for your poems. Your inner strength shines when you take up a pen to write down your observations...your appreciation, I should say.

That's a plus huh, Regis? Not having to mow (giggles). I like this a whole lot REgis, cause there is beauty in nature, and nature is love. I also like the pictures you took to enhance this nicely penned poem of beauty. When we lived in Central Wisconsin in a mobile home trailer, the deer would come and sit by the edge of our lawn, when we had cookouts...and yes Regis (giggles again), they were invited to the cookout too. it is such a wonderful thing to be able to bond with nature, for that is what our souls are made of. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, joy to the world, peace on erth, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

Sounds like heaven, Regis! My yard has a lot of grass, Crepe Myrtles with different color blooms, red Cana Lilies which the hummingbirds like, and see's a big variety of other birds which I feed, opossums which make their way in, and squirrels which climb over the fence. They hang upside down trying to eat the cracked corn I have in the feeder for the birds. I also have a lot of frogs that like the flower beds up against the house. I love watching all of them.

Thank you for sharing your little peice of heaven, Regis. My "lovers" are of the bird variety, now. The creekside is bare on one side from people wanting to trim and domesticate every green thing living. So of course, the raccoons are gone. There used to be whole families. We even had coyote traveling along the stream. How I wish I lived on what looks like the edge of wildland like you do! The only wild mammals I've seen are possum and jack-rabbits. As I live within the city limits, am forced to mow and hold mother nature at bay. But like you, I don't use herbicides nor pesticides. Because of this, I am rewarded with surprise wildflowers and butterflys in the summer...
