Thoughts Upon Waking In 2009

I waken
In the home of Morpheus
I do not want to face
The same reality
More soldiers killed
In Baghdad and Kandahar
More war
And rumours of war
More suicides and homicides
Rapes and infanticides
Threats of HN1 and West Nile
Viruses so vile
Politicians lying
Corruption flying
Children dying
Dire warning
Global warming
Drought and famine
Tornadoes and hurricanes
Mud slides and torrential rains
Impending chaos
Doom and gloom
There's no more room
So much running through my head
I want to remain in bed
I cannot find the one I love
I look for love in God above
Dream of a new reality
Jesus pity us
I want to stay with Morpheus

Very true. Reminds me of my best friend, who once said: "Sleep seems to be the only cure". Of course, it is not. Still, it's the way most of us feel. It's the spirit of the era; an era whose problems appear to have assumed a dimension that defies any solution, which we are tempted to accept, since solutions are never convenient.

Oh man, do I ever share your feelings about the state of the world at many times, Regis. I am returning to AD after some illness and a long stint at the state fair where I had to deal with the suicide of one friend often involved in the fair and talk of divorce with two other friends plus listen to all of the garbage coming through world and national news. I look to my inwards to listen to the voice of God, and make contact with him rather than dwelling on the outwards of a hurting world. Only by looking to the inwards can I understand the outwards and my place in them.........Jerry

A wiser person then I once said this to me and I live by it. There are terrible things that happen in the world each day and if I chose to remember them in such a way as you are this morning it will always be depressing to even the strongest of character. I was told to remember only the ones that I could do something about to change or help in some small way. Then to leave the rest of the list for someone else who perhaps needs something to do that day also.

We live in an age where we know everything that they want us to around the world. I do not go out of my way to take them all on today. Good write and very thought provoking. LadyJ

You capture well the spirit of the age, Regis... of the ages, in fact. Art addresses the eternal soul and spirit of mankind and though of the era it was obviusly conceived in, it is timeless - as is often the subjects it portrays, like ancient myth. Our human condition seems to have always been the same... as well as our spiritual aspirations. You have brought the current-day situation vividly before my eyes here in this precisely executed plain-speak and have woken me up with its surgical sharp focus. And within it, your poetic and sensitive heart shines as well as your loving longing and yearning. How is it that us individuals are so pained by what we as global communities do to each other? And why, if the individual is as "we" are, do we do these awful things? What goes wrong in the space between the "I" and the "us"? Another fabulous write from you, thank you and bless you. xx

You captured it all, Regis. Business as usual.

Frankly, I don't know if we're getting worse with the passage of centuries or there's just a lot more of us to do the same wicked deeds. Certainly, we're now more able to talk about and show everything; and, of course, we do. Gets a little overwhelming at times.

It all makes me dream of a nice peaceful island in the Pacific with only a million or so others seeking peace and solitude. All I really would need is Authorsden. Oh, yes, and TV football where all is so quiet and respectful.

Computors have taken over jobs and made more money for the 'fat cats'.
The only good thing about computors is that I would not have been able to write a novel without one. (May not be a good thing, after all!) I did have a lot of fun writing though.
