In Season

We were in season
We sang like birds
Carefree
In virgin spring
We danced like daisies
In gentle breeze
Our hearts played
Our feelings free
We frolicked
Like children in the snow
White sandy beach
Along a benevolent
Placid sea
We rained love and warmth
We poured passion and heat
We sweated sweetness

Now

We are in season
We are hunted
By past events
Present circumstances
We are tentative
Timid
Almost apprehensive
Like deer in autumn

The world is the hunter
And we are in season

De Saison

Nous étions de saison
Nous chantions comme les oiseaux
Dans le printemps vierge
Nous dansions comme des marguerites
Dans la douce brise
Nos cœurs jouaient
Nos émotions étaient libres
Nous folâtrions
Comme des enfants dans la neige
Immaculée
Plage sablonneuse
Le long d’un océan
Bénin et paisible
Nous pleuvions amour et ardeur
Nous versions passion et chaleur
Nous transpirions douceur

Et maintenant

Nous sommes de saison
Nous sommes pourchassés
Par des événements passés
Des circonstances présentes
Nous sommes hésitants
Timides
Comme des cerfs en automne

Le monde est le chasseur
Et nous sommes de saison

And so life, past and present, touches the lovers -- even though the love is still there, surroundings and circumstances become like the hunter trying to kill its prey, love. Or this is how I read this well-written piece, my friend. It's that same place again. Hugs and love, Elizabeth

I like the idea of there is a season for "things" and a time for them to change, but end? can another winter take a rest and spring re-new? I like this poem alot. What is so simple can turn so complicated. Cheers!!!

WOW! I Love this!
The World is having hard times, but for a moment WE MUST LOOK PAST THEM, just for a moment and enjoy that moment!
I feel your pain, I really do Reg, it may not sound it in my writing, but IF you look deeper, you would see SADNESS....
Your metaphors here and analogies are startling truths...
Seasons, Nature, People, Emotions all co-mix HERE...

This is a great poem. Beautiful and heartfelt.
I love the imagery you create with your choice of words and I love your use of metaphor and some other poetic devices. Very well done.

The poem reads and flows well. I am tempted though to add punctuation to it.

The last two lines of the English version of the poem are smaller in (font) size than the rest of the poem. Was that intentional or just a typo?

Thanks for sharing and keep on writing.

All the best,
Lena

I know from personal experience how the last part of this poem can tear a person up; emotionally, physically, and spiritually. But I say that we can get away from our past even though we will never forget them, if only those demons that reside in the past leave and don't come back. When we have traumatic events in our lives, it is very hard for us to look ahead when we haven't figured out why our past happened the way it did. I for one will always ask "Why" because my past didn't happen because of something I did, but because of something someone else couldn't abide. But what the something is I am not sure because the someone took that secret to her grave. I will always have the questions and know there can be no answers. I am in season and my past is the hunter.

This is a well written poem Reg with a message for all of us. Most of us I bet can relate to this in many ways. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and walk by your side. With love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister Barbie

What i like about this is how the end mirrors the beginning but in a different way: in each time "we are in season," at first in a good way, at the end, in not so good a way. It is the nature of people to be hunted (I'm glad you didn't go with the cliche "haunted" by the past, but must it be so? Can we not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually survive our pasts? How would that be done? Certainly, we are always evolving, never the same person day to day. The past is always connected to the present, but is there a way not to be "hunted" by it? A dilemma of my own. There is joy in the past too, but we don't seem to complain about that, do we? We have sweet memories: the hunt comes, perhaps, because the joy ran its course. I wonder if it's possible to keep those moments, both good and bad, in our heads, accept them, integrate them, but not be bound or slave to them. I'm not suggesting forgetting them, because I don't think it's possible, without hypnosis (or some really weird movie like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). Anyway, there is a melancholy here that I identify with. It is said that melancholy, or negative emotion is a defense mechanism: keeping us from returning to a similar circumstance. But life is life, and cannot be avoided. There is the light and shadow. Anyway, well done, and thank you for the French. So beautiful. julianza

Regis, is it recent events, Haiti in particular that has made so many of our writers so negatively pensive? I see your beautifully phrased words and they have true meaning, however I sense such a state of depression in the thought of reaching beyond our middle years.
I've often said that in most cases I do not understand poetry and that is why I rarely review poetry; because so often I cannot see the writers true meaning, so the meanings are deciphered in my head and I fear that most often what I read does not truly have the meaning the writer is trying to put across and is not the meaning I think it is.

A brilliantly sustained metaphor, Regis, that works so very well and will live on in my mind for a long while. Lovely images you choose to work with here and I'd LOVE to see the French - the mood and tone seem just right pour le francais somehow. Can imagine this going hand in hand with a moody impressionist painting of trees on the banks of the Seine. One of your recent bests, I reckon! Bless you, Kate xx

Everything in life ebbs and flows and so it is with relationships. Finding our way back to that comfortable place where emotions are tempered and love is strong, though sometimes difficult, is essential if things are ever going to get back on track. If you are writing about yourself or someone you love, I pray that they find that comfortable place soon. Very nice work, Reg.
