This is a true event. I've just come back from a 2000 kilometre journey (return trip distance).

Poem Artwork

Seeking Solace

I sought to lose myself
Fall into oblivion
Away from ghosts of you

Your image
Your touch
Your scent
Your taste
Your voice
Your promises

I went to a different place
Across strange enchanting mountains
Singing rivers
Sparkling brooks
Tumbling cascades
I beheld birds and bears
Butterflies and bumblebees
Flowers in alpine meadows

Such stunning colours
Dazzling sights
Enchanting sounds
Intoxicating fragrances

A glimpse of misplaced and vanished Eden

Surely I would be healed
In this kaleidoscope of unique experiences
Where my soul might seek solace

At first I found sleep easy
Almost dreamless
But it was not to be

The ghosts of you
Had followed me

Within a dream they came
And brought me back to tears

Sometimes I think no matter how many beautiful images there are in this world, no matter how near or far we journey, the ghost will haunt forever. I believe the only thing to do is welcome it as part of yourself, be with it, embrace it, allow the tears and the pain, and then brush it away knowing the love you had was real and beautiful, at least for a little while, until the next time the ghost appears because there will always be a next time. This one tugs at the emotions, Regis. Hugs, Elizabeth

No matter how fast one travels, they cannot outrun a memory. We all have our ghosts, Regis, I guess we'll just have to live with them. Excellent piece!

SOMETIMES THE MEMORIES SEEM TO TAKE FOREVER TO FADE AWAY, BUT THEN...SOMETIMES...THE MEMORIES NEVER COMPLETELY FADE. BUT, THANK GOD, THE PAIN DIMINISHES TO THE POINT WHERE ONE CAN DEAL WITH THE MEMORIES...AND WE PRESS ON IN SPITE OF IT ALL. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS CANDID WORK. Odd how some ghosts never leave us. No matter how far we physically journey. Our heart is somethings mistakenly left behind.

Goes to prove that you never really escape the memory, the mental damage, the twisted bittersweet of past. So you cleanse your soul, you remember, you grieve, and hopefully move on...this was a very moving write. I really enjoyed "Away from ghosts of you" and "A glimpse of misplaced and vanished Eden" - beautiful.

A lesson learned? :)
What I mean to state is the following..the ONLY one that is true to your heart is YOU Regis..others only reflect back to you who you are..so love the love that you carry within your heart, soul and mind..enjoy the Being that YOU are..no one can surpass that..:)) Try and SEE how it all works out in the end..you will then smile to yourself and say.." How blind I was..for I had love within me all the time..it has never really left me !"...:)))

Lovely poem..thank you :)

Blessings,
Vesna

A very emotional write. You fall in love one day and find yourself in heaven. You give yourself completely to another person. And then that person leaves you shortly after and you shatter into a million pieces. You find yourself in hell and you can't escape, forever haunted by what was and is never to be. Makes you wonder why you gave so much of yourself away to that person. You've been through this and so have I and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

This cavalcade of exquisite imagery and its attendant portrayal proves that although the journey of a thousand miles may begin with a single step, the journey of a thousand smiles may end with a single sleep. I especially like the way you've woven dreams into this poignant poem. So evocative, so evanescent; and you make it look so effortless. Impressive poem, Regis.

How we ache for your ending to be different, Regis. You have witnessed so much and absorbed such good things for the body, mind and spirit and yet a deep grief remains. I am deeply sorry for your loss and know that there is no short cut to mourning it. But surely, time, space and the ability to take on board the wonders and beauties of each new day will ease and heal the wounding by degrees. Honesty is not easy but it is cleansing, I believe. May you be held and healed by the loving thoughts and intentions of others you allow to be close. Bless you, Regis, xx

Regis, when we are grieving from the pain of a lost love we often seek a new place to run away from it. Unfortunately it is always with us and will no never go completely away. It is we that must adjust, not our environment. May peace and love be always with you my dear friend. Jon Michael

Love it. Can't hide from the pain of loss. Can't run. That's how I interpreted it. You come to peace within yourself, the eden is within you. Don't run from the ghost, accept it - and there you find your solace.

I try not to look back Regis. Although these beautiful memories I too remember, I was glad I had the chance to experience them.
I recently watched Ratatouille, very cute show, quote hit me like a ton of bricks, "if you focus on what you left behind, you will never get ahead". This came at a good time for me! A sharing thought for you.
I try to look at things now as an experience that help me to do better the next time.
Beautifully written...

Many of us...at some time or another seek solace...
...the inner peace that can comfort...console our soul
and sometimes we find it in the peaceful heart of Nature's
stillness...deep within ourselves...through spirituality
finding who we really are...talking to others and getting
insight and understanding of why things fell apart...
and remember...when it comes to broken heart...we all hurt
...cry...feel pain...have to pick up the pieces...move on...
However you seek solace or through whatever means...I hope
it is there for you Regis.
Love your passion-filled...sentient poem...exploring your
own shifting sense of self...touching on the most of human's
emotions.
With warm regards Isabella.
