My Hands

These are my hands
So grateful for them I am
I know they are dirty
I just came in from working out there
They’re soiled from toil and soil
A
nd kinship with the earth
I am grateful for my hands
When I think of all that I have done with these hands
It leaves me a bit giddy
And awakens
A kaleidoscope of memories
From when I first recall the love of touching
A mere babe was I
But I loved the consistency of so many things and creatures
All the way from then to now and presently
So thankful I am that I cannot recall
Doing wrong with my hands
Pardon the dirt under my fingernails
I’ll take that any time
Over having ever done injury
With these lovely hands of mine
My hands that love
Simply and purely
The soil and earthy things
And surely you my love
I miss your tender touch on me
And my gentle hands
Caressing you

People don't realize how we are blessed to have hands that can do all these things until something happens and this blessing is lost. It is always good to be thankful for what we are able to do and for what we have been blessed with.

I'll give you a hand for this one! Our hands are wonderful instruments of our expression. I'm continually amazed, in spite of both my hands being paralyzed and partially numb, how useful they remain through many aspects of my daily life. Sometimes, I just have to take off my hand splint on my right hand to get full use of it.

Hands...they are a very intricate part of our being. Mine are stained today because I was picking boysenberries and black raspberries yesterday from my garden. Blackberries are almost ready, too. I always think I will save them for my salad or cereal but my hands just keep stuffing them into my mouth. It seems hands can have a mind of their own. Nice work, Reg.
