This is a true event, that happened to me.

April 4th, 1968, a date I will never forget,
It was 8:00 pm on a muggy day, that was far from over yet.
The clouds rolled in dark, ominous and with gloom,
Little did I know, the Twister would hit so soon.
As the Twister hit the building, I could see lightning overhead,
I wished with all my trembling heart, that I was home safe, in my bed.
Things were falling all around me, although I could not see,
Then, something blew into me and sent me to my knees.
I had pictured in my mind a desk, through the storm's fury, I could not see,
I crawed toward the imagined spot, with accuracy I still can't believe.
As I shot under the desk, with head, shoulders and knees,
I just knew that Twister, was still coming after me.
When the storm was over and I knew that I had survived,
I couldn't hear or see anyone else, I thought I was the only one left alive.
Then, someone far away struck a match and voices I could hear,
It was only then that I noticed, my eyes were filled with tears.
I learned a new respect, for a Twister that's strong and bold,
Let me tell you folks, now when it storms, I start looking for a hole!
I know: and I love it when the weather guys say (when a tornado warning is issued), "Get to your basement." Uhhh... I'm in Texas? No such THING as a basement 'round here?!? LOL Once you've been in one of these things, you never forget (been in six, myself, all weak, lost my roof in the third - once the roof's gone, strength doesn't matter, ya know?!?). Excellent write, enjoyed. Glad you survived the Darling Twister.
And you can just keep them twisters down there where you live & I will live with any hurricanes we get in my home town on the coast of NJ...we all learn to live with what we got, don't we...Ed & Rufuz [w00f]
