On a crisp autumn night when the full moon lies low,
you can see his face clearly from the earth far below.
Sometimes he smiles and sometimes he cries,
whatever his nature, he always looks wise.
Some say his stare is cold like a freeze,
and others think only he’s made of green cheese.
So who is this stranger that lives far away,
is he for real or made out of clay.
When will we meet him, this elusive old guy,
who lives in the heavens and shines in our sky.
We think that we know him, we’ve seen him so much,
but is he an image or a person as such.
We’ll keep on a-wondering ‘bout this curious face,
that shines down upon us from far away space.
When you hide in the morning and come out at night,
you give the world pleasure to watch in delight.
You’ll be there forever, we’ll see you real soon,
so keep on a -shinin, you man in the moon.
