The Path It’s a long and winding path We take with two first breaths At first a little blurry In time it clears a bit So much to see in wonder At first on soft all fours We think and then we ponder So much to find and more On weak legs standing upright Taking first few steps A road that’s set before us Alone a simple trek While others travel around us We cross each other’s path Sometimes are sharing smiles And times are sharing wrath So many roads before us Some rocky, forked and straight The path of less resistance, Or turmoil, pain and ache There is the sea of tranquility Where many lay and bask What’s to learn in simplicity? The amoeba even asks The shadows of unknown How mysterious they do seem Should we fear their presence? Or venture on to see There stand the cliffs of danger Some cling with fingertips How deep is its dark chasm, Standing back we dare not trip Mountains rise before us Storms at their crescent peaks With roads most long and winding I choose this path to seek The air is thick and heavy The ground is weak and frail Each step does causes a rattle Rock shards that can impale The storm has hid the summit The path becoming steep With baited breath still climbing Can it soon be reached? This journey moves so slowly My soul now feeling lost White owl alights upon me Wise eyes encourage on A glimmer of sun before me Is this truly what I see? I forge the storm before me It is my destiny I stand atop the mountain Wind coursing through my hair He said my child you’ve made it See what I have prepared You chose the path of wisdom In what so many fear Some souls have traveled with you They always have been near Your faith has kept you moving Your lessons you have learned Now dawn has touched the morning Sunshine now has returned The road is often rocky No path is smooth you see Your strength has pulled you forward Love’s light your destiny Carolee Dennis-Woosley May 11, 2012
