Toxicivity in relationships never work; they slowly die until the chain is broken. ~Lily of Lough Neagh~

Poem Artwork

 My Belladonna

So delicate appear

Your outward gentle self

But see beyond the petals

Your poison to myself

Crimson are your words

Oh how you had me fooled

Slowly as I choke

Yet tend to you I do

With acid for your words

The parchment paper burns

No longer can I feel

A numbingness occurred

For as your oak I stood

To give you needed shade

But now my roots are dying

And shoots are just the same

Your berries as they fall

And roll along the ground

Are killing all the hatchlings

Don’t you think profound?

Yet tarry and you grow

Your acid rain you spread

For care not that you do

And merely turn your head

My presence is ignored

You only yawn and snore

Hear my words I beg

For soon they’ll be no more

For I must stand for me

I cannot do for you

It’s time to move my roots

For mine own self be true

Sad to "say," you share a timeless and universal theme of many human relationships through your verses here, Carol. I can relate to a lot of what you have expressed here although, thankfully, I have not experienced the "toxicity" and "acidity" to which you allude. Still, I have hurt enough to be able to understand well. Love and best wishes to you,

Being taken for granted hurts. Mean words hurt. These things can make you sick. Run for your life!

Love ya!

Poison of the words and hand can never be cured they leave their mark forever in a soul. There may never be a solution. You are so very gifted when it comes to expressing the deepest emotions.

Stay well and keep writing

Poison relationships aren't good Lilly. I was in one many years ago and got out. Fortunately I found my beautiful wife now and our little girl is our angel.

They needed to think things through before they were married and had children. It's the children who suffer so

Yes this kind or relationship dies, there is nothing to cure it. The only option is to heal thyself.

Love it Carol, I think Belladonna although poison, in moderation was used in magic ceremonies as a halluciogenic. But nontheless, your message of being true to ones self, is a wise old tree, stemming branches of truth.

Peace and love forever

My dear lady Lily, it is a sad situation that one can be so fooled by another. That one must live such indignities that you have written so well.

I bow and tip my hat to you

Great reflection of a relation that doesn't work.
It can only mean one thing and you come to the same conclusion:
make the choice for yourself, stand for yourself.

Fantastic writing Carolee

It has always been a mystery to me as to why a relationship can go from euphoria in the first days and months to a choking, dying and absolute hatefulness soon after. I think the warning signs were there even in the beginning, but most people are so deliriously happy with the person they fell in love with, that they saw, but against their better judgment, ignored.
