Humor, they say,
Is a state of mind;
And more than that,
It is a cusp,
A way of looking at life
When nothing to be done.
Humor blooms whenever
An exuberance of intellect
Is able to flay its own ideals,
For humor is nothing else
But intellect slashing at itself.
In any period of history,
When mankind was able
To perceive its own futility,
Its own follies and smallness,
A humorist appeared in no time.
All politicians and bandits
Have become great humorists,
Because they have been imbued,
Directly or otherwise,
With the absurdities of life
Viewed from their own stage.
The great existential philosophers believed, especially during and after the anguish of World War II, that life itself, was absurd. I can't wait every Saturday night to see what Saturday Night Live comes up with for a skit, usually poking pins in pumped up pompous politics. It's great fun, especially if the politicians involved, get involved in the fun.
"It is a cusp,"... Indeed. A point formed by two intersecting arcs. Much to be gleaned from that image in context to the subject matter. Certainly it takes a lot more than just awareness for humans to change, though. It takes courage and humility, and the willingness to occasionally feel like fools and laugh at ourselves. I know I do... often. An insight of worth, Alexander, and one I resonated with. Thank you for sharing. Peace... r
