The Intrusion

Cat causing mayhem

The Intrusion

 

Pity the poor mouse

Running loose in our house,

Brought home by a cat

And dropped on the mat

It ran for its life

Never meant to cause strife.   

But the cat made such a clatter

Didn’t think it would matter

The noise woke me with a start 

Disturbing the beat of my heart 

It’s only four in the morning 

I thought it was a warning 

we might have an intruder  

and what could be ruder! 

But I’m not going to shout  

As cat knocks things about, 

So now I’m awake 

And the mouse needs to escape 

On one thing we agree 

I need to set him free 

And I am in need of a drink 

A cup of hot coffee I think.

That picture is precious. The expression is so telling. And the twist in the story of the cat bringing home the mouse and letting it loose, and then going after it again, gives the whole thing an allegorical feel. We have an American Short-hair, her name is Lucy. She likes bringing in lizards. This brought my wife and I a good laugh. Thanks. rlc
