The Young Eagle

Sometimes we face experiences that challenge us to soar like a young eagle. Can we do it? Do we accept the challenge?

High on a perch the young eagle trembled

Some feathers soft as a velvety cloak

Far down below in the valley so treacherous

Canyons are sounding mid dense clouds of smoke.

"Soar!" called his father,"Soar over the mountains!"

"But what if I fall to the chasm below?"

"I'll bear you up on my wings strong and faithful,

I'll bear you up while stronger you grow.

But still did he linger with eyes glazed with horror;

Still did he fear the tumult below.

 "Rise up!" cried his mother,

"Rise up!" called his father, "Soar high above and follow a star!"

So then he took wing while help hovered near him

And reached for the heavens he had seen from afar.

He felt the keen breezes fluffing his pinions,

He felt the night airways guiding him on.

He felt so alive as he soared with the currents

He sang in his heart a victorious song.

Aside from the eagle's first horrifying leap off the nest, your form also signifies any child leaving the nest and what they face as they soar into the outside world.

Bald eagles do not have any white feathers until several years and are fully mature.

Excellent! We watch eagles give birth once a year on a cam camera set up just outside their nest. They have a 50% mortality rate. Their feet are full size at birth. What a joy it is to see their first flight. You captured a glimpse of this in this poem. Very nicely done!
