Taking myself back to the 1930's in Birmingham, England
Our 'arry wus a butcher, 'an ee worked int knackers yard.'an ee took wiv 'im each day, two pieces of bread 'an lard.
Now our 'arry luved 'is bread 'an lard, an sumtimes fer a change, ee would plaster them wiv 'Daddies Sauce', the best int grocers range.
Now bread an' lard an' Daddies Sauce are good fer mind 'an body. The lard guz on fust an' then the sauce, which stops the bread from gooin' soggy.
There's nothin' wus than soggy bread when sauce is put on fust, follered by the lard. So ee duz em up 'iself ee duz, then the lard allas stays pretty well'ard.
Now 'arry workin' int knackets yard, brings 'ome all sorts of fings, and the best of finks, so mind recalls, was fresh pigs bladders, blown up an, used as footballs.
A pigs 'ed ee would bring our mom, on wikends when ee were able, ,an er would stick it on a tin plate, where it would stare at us kid's from orf the table.
It weren't long afor the 'ed was turned inter luvley brawn, which for our Mom weren't never very 'ard. 'arry allas ad fust slice neatly stuck between two pieces of bread an' lard.
