Term Limit © Chris Riddell of The Guardian Mine Eyes Mine eyes have seen the thousand lies, That have broken so many lives. He is trampling out the villages, Of both the innocent and unwise. He has loosed the fateful lightning, Of his powerful military swift sword. He has gathered riches around him, In a mighty personal gilded hoard. IT CAN'T HAPPEN FAST ENOUGH FOR ME. DEAR GOD...PLEASE COME, EVEN NOW...IN THE NAME OF JESUS! AMID THE ATROCITIES I SOMETIMES TEND TO FORGET...GOD IS ALLOWING THIS AND, CLEARLY...HIS RETURN IS CLOSER NOW THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN. SO, YES...MINE EYES 'SEE' TOO, RONALD BUT I'M LOOKING AT THE ULTIMATE VICTORY OF...AN ENTIRE NEW EARTH, AMEN! THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Ron, this is a sharp and unflinching parody. By echoing the cadence of the Battle Hymn, you give the poem a moral gravity that fits the subject. Each couplet tightens the indictment�lies, devastation, hoarded wealth, blind power�and the final turn, when the loyalists fall away, comes across as if inevitable, a clear, strong piece that speaks truth without resorting to shouting.
