We're told to "Love thy neighbor,"
But they didn't tell us why
We have to love him if
He wears a tacky tie,
Or mows his lawn at night,
Or plays his stereo loud,
Or when he has a party
Invites a noisy crowd,
Or if he is too fat,
Or if he is too thin,
Or if he has a tic,
Or different color skin,
Or has too little hair,
Or if he has too much,
Or is the wrong religion,
Or, walking, needs a crutch,
Or if his wife's a dog,
Or if she is a fox,
Or if she is a man,
(And not a paradox),
Or if he is too poor,
Or if he is too rich,
Or if he's CEO,
Or if he digs a ditch,
Or if he is too young,
Or if he is too old,
Or if his kids are smart,
Or if they're uncontrolled,
Or if he's on the left,
Or too far to the right,
Or if he's in the dark,
Or if he's seen the light.
We know that we could love
Our neighbor without fuss;
We'd do it instantly
If he were just like us.
