Christmas is upon us with glitter and flair
And the twinkling of snowflakes is seen in the air.
All the stores are resplendent with holiday fare,
While carols are pealing out joy everywhere.
The shoppers are bearing down, seeking their prizes
To fit all their loved ones in manifold sizes.
But there in the corner, behind Santa's bright throne,
Is a small, rugged stable, sitting all alone.
There's Mary, bending over her first newborn Son,
While Joseph is standing guard o'er the Holy One.
“Silent Night” sounds in clear notes its heavenly song,
As, enraptured, I find myself singing along.
Renewed in my spirit, I can almost believe
The wee baby is smiling at me as I leave.
“I will not forget you,” I whisper aloud,
As I once more step into the jostling crowd
And I wonder at the new sense of peace and joy
I find at the stable in a sweet baby boy.
HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED
WONDERFUL COUNSELOR,
MIGHTY GOD,
EVERLASTING FATHER,
PRINCE OF PEACE.
