Indeed, Jeff, being there is everything. How we miss the point by being reticent, perhaps, to be so because of our fear of inadequacy and uselessness or helplessness. But, by just being present, we come alongside the person in distress, in effect, saying we know and care about what it is they are going through, even if we have no answers... The lamp of faith you speak of stands in the dark and shines the light, attracting help, drawing attention, basically saying that the situation is IMPORTANT and deserving of notice and attention. We can have faith in God or whatever for the outcome, sure... but equally important is the having faith in the person and in the value of their plight. Such is true friendship, and your five epigrammic lines have produced the swollen seed of thoughtfulness in me. Thanks for the bountiful provocation. You give fresh meaning to the old adage about a friend in need. Bless you and thank you. Kate xx
