My gravestone says she lived and died It gives out months and days It also says she was the beloved Wife of one John Hayes. It doesn’t say she had a kid Though many know she did It doesn’t say she had a hand In everything John planned. My gravestone says she lived and died Ignores that she laughed and cried. I think if I could modify it some I’d have them throw in my green thumb!
I do so love to read the epitaphs on gravestones wherever I go to the cemeteries. At Middletown Cemetary there are so many yet to be read, but the new ones are great. Tom has praying hands on his. He would of loved that. Mine will be his too, together at the end again.
Good point, but come on, Randall. It would take us as long to read the tombstones as it does to read Authors' Den offerings each day!
Personally, I could happily spend at least half my time reading, and hearing more of the story when someone dies strongly appeals to me.
Each life is so precious!
A lot of power and truth in the simplicity of these lines that show all too well how entire lives are sometimes reduced to parentheses scribbled in the shadow of another.
