I was eatin' and drinkin' at the Japanese-equivalent of a "beanery":
small fish, sautéed green peppers (the short ones), hodge-podge, etc..
Hot sake, of course!

This feller came in, sat there beside me, ordered up some hot sake and some of them green peppers....

Well, it was autumn, and I had long since learned that some (not all) of them green peppers can get powerful hot by autumn, so I knew it wise to nibble on each one before chompin' on it!!!

Don't know why that feller hadn't learned the same lesson, but he chomped on the first one and...well, you can imagine him shootin' straight up off his stool and spittin' that pepper all over the place! Waitress tried to settle him down, but he only berated her and threatened, I suppose (my Japanese wasn't that good), all sorts of reprecussions.

Yes, it ain't polite in Japan to butt in, but I felt kinda sorry for both of them--especially him...sittin' there with tears and sweat still running down his cheeks. So I leaned over and whispered my old Hot Pepper Haiku into his steamin' ear:

                    Aki aoto..................(Autumn peppers)
                    Toki-doki karaii..... (Sometimes hot;)
                    Kiosukete!...............(Be careful!)

He looked at me kinda funny, smiled and nodded his head, "So desu, ne!"
