 He grew up in a dilapidated hut,
His mama fed him well
but left him in a rut,
She could not cook anything nice,
but salted fish and rice.
Oh! He grew up eating salted fish and rice.

He went on for years on his mama's land,
Grew from a child to a boy to a man,
Though he turned strong and handsome and nice,
He's tasted nothing but salted fish and rice.
Oh! He grew up eating salted fish and rice.

Mama told him, "The future's right ahead,
"Don't stay here, go out into the world," she said,
So he woke up at sunrise,
Mama packed him salted fish and rice,
For he grew up eating salted fish and rice.

The train stopped in the midst of the city,
His head spinned seeing so big a society,
Suddenly felt very small like one of those lab mice,
He longed for his mama's salted fish and rice,
For he grew up eating salted fish and rice.

He was admired for his talents and good looks,
By fair maidens with rouge and with books,
Two even offered to cook him something nice,
Gourmet dishes to simple pork and pies,
But he grew up eating salted fish and rice.

He suddenly turned to a beauty with raven hair,
With an exotic face and mesmerizing stare,
Flames ignited with Mother Nature's device,
She opened up with no intention to disguise,
But did he miss his salted fish and rice.

So he said to her, "My fair Miss,
Your charm is so great I could not resist,
But I have to marry someone nice,
Common perhaps but pure as ice,
For I grew up eating salted fish and rice.
Oh! I grew up eating salted fish and rice.
