Working nights gives me a deep appreciation for a dark sky.

Oh ebony night, hold my hand

Crush me in your embrace

`Tis you alone who understands

How I’ve come to dwell in this place

Might I join your song of sorrow…

Eerily so divine

I’d gather the moon in my arms

Anxious to make his troubles mine

`Tis that lonely whistle of wind

That sways the trees to bend

Should their branches listlessly droop

Their dying roots I’d gladly tend

The stars must not lose their glisten

The clouds…their bushy plume

Who would rob celestial gold

And leave the sky a barren tomb

Thus, on bended knee, I request…

Your cape of solitude

Your dark visage and nightly friends

Mysteriously fit my mood

I am a kind of night owl, but retired, just cannot sleep good at nights unless taking a prescribed sleeping pill from my dr. It is so long til daylight sometimes, and it disturbs me to no end.

Reg is right. I've worked night shift and it is dark and dark in mood even if you are in a good mood. You penned it perfectly. excellent. Liz

Gorgeous thoughts here, laced together with a hint of classicism. Flows effortlessly too. This, in my realm of experience, is another you Sheila. And I dig it! That special night when inspiration wrapped around your heart and mind and your words became a gem to be treasured.

You've given a wonderful description of "night". The words that tapped deep feelings inside me were " `Tis that lonely whistle of wind" It brought back memories of all those ghost stories my grandmother used to tell.

Oh Shiela, you must have been gazing into my heart as well when you wrote this moving saga of midnight blues. I spent most of last night awake listening to thunder and watching the lighting flash across the sky and your poem wonderfully describes the melancholly of the mood I was in. Thank you for sharing.

Sheila,

This is why we call it, "The Graveyard Shift" I love the mystery and the eerie feelings your poem gives me. That 4th verse is my favorite. I hope there are many stars and bright moons to amend those dark overcast nights. Always a pleasure reading your poetry my friend. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
